Leeds United legend Eddie Gray has revealed that he is concerned about the lack of goalscoring threats in Garry Monk’s squad, barring Chris Wood.

The New Zealand international has been in fine nick this season and has scored six Championship goals already, including in the 1-1 draw against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night.

Wood has scored 40 per cent of Leeds’ 15 league goals this season and many are concerned about the lack of support the striker has been receiving from his team-mates.

The Kiwi was taken off midway through the second half against Wigan at Elland Road and following his substituation, Leeds lacked any attacking edge, which eventually led to the Latics scoring a late equaliser.

Gray admits that it is worrisome that the midfielders and wingers are not contributing enough in terms of goals and it has led to them depending heavily on Wood to score the goals.

The Leeds legend told LUTV: “I was a bit surprised to see Chris Wood come off the other night as he was the biggest threat.

“We have seen in other games where other players have scored, but if he doesn’t stick the ball into the back of the net, where the goals are going to come from?

“How many of the midfield players had a shot on goal or the wide players? Not enough.

“So you are relying on the centre forward a lot.”
