Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino believes his squad will improve a great deal, following their exposure at Anfield in an EFL Cup game on Tuesday night.

Spurs, who fielded a second-string side against the Reds, lost the contest 2-1, with Daniel Sturridge scoring a brace for the hosts and Vincent Janssen pulling one back for the north London club late on.

Youngsters such as Cameron Carter-Vickers, Kieran Trippier, Tom Carroll, Harry Winks and Georges-Kevin N'Koudou, who have been sparingly used by Pochettino this season, featured against the Merseyside giants in the EFL Cup game.

And although Spurs lost the contest, Pochettino is of the opinion that the game at Anfield will prove to be a good learning curve for his charges.

“All the players [took their chance] for different reasons”, he told Spurs TV.

“We have young players that are from England, youngsters that have come from outside of England and it was important today to play.

“Playing at Anfield is always very difficult but I think it was a great experience to push our level, to improve a lot and learn from the game.

"It will improve our squad for the future.”

Tottenham, who are now winless in their last four outings in all competitions, will next face Leicester City in a Premier League fixture at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
