Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri is not expecting to play in the Championship despite his heroics in his side's penalty shootout win against Norwich City.

The Italian goalkeeper made three fantastic saves at Elland Road to help Leeds see off Norwich City’s challenge in the last 16 of the EFL Cup and secure a place in the quarter-finals.

It was only his third appearance this season and his previous two outings were also in the EFL Cup, with Rob Green being preferred over him in Championship games.

And with the Yorkshire giants on a good run of form since last month in league games, the goalkeeper is not expecting to play in Championship in the near future.

When asked whether he is hoping to make a return in league games soon, Silvestri told BBC Radio Leeds: “I don’t think so as now the team are playing well.

“In the Championship we are in a great position with some good performances, so I am not expecting to play now.

“Maybe in the future, but I don’t know.”

Silvestri is again expected to be on the bench when Leeds take on Burton Albion at Elland Road on Saturday.
