Leeds United new boy Pontus Jansson has insisted that the reason he is becoming a much loved figure at Elland Road is because he knows what the fans want.

The defender, who was snapped up by Leeds on a season-long loan deal from Serie A outfit Torino during the summer transfer window, has managed to strike the right chord with the Whites faithful.

Jansson’s tough displays in defence, coupled with his ability to connect with the fans, have made him a hit amongst the supporters.

And the Sweden international, who was named Leeds’ Player of the Month for September, revealed that he is aware of the fans’ demands as he himself was a fan before he started playing for Malmo.

“I’m happy for that and I’m thankful”, he said in a Sky Bet Facebook Q&A, when asked about his good relationship with the Leeds supporters.

“I won the Player of the Month award last month, and I’m really thankful and I’m really honoured for that.

“It’s not that easy to have that relationship with the fans, you have to really deserve it.

“But from the first game I played for Leeds, I played with my heart on the sleeve and I give everything, the supporters like that.

“Also, I know how the supporters want the players to play. I was a supporter of my club for 10-15 years before I played for the club.

“So, I know how the fans want the players to play.”

Jansson, whose present contract with Torino runs until 2018, has thus far made 10 appearances in all competitions for Leeds, helping the Yorkshire giants to keep four clean sheets.

The 25-year-old centre-back also has eight caps for Sweden to his name.
