Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has stressed the importance of not concentrating on the league table at this stage of the season.

While Manchester City are currently leading the league table, the top five teams in the Premier League are currently separated by a solitary point and it is shaping up to be one of the tightest seasons ever.

Chelsea are one of those teams who are just a point off the top of the league table, but Conte feels it is still not time to look at the league table and believes his team need to concentrate on improving themselves.

He admits that the title race is going to be tight, but the Chelsea boss feels at this stage of the season the Blues should just focus on working hard for the rest of the campaign.

When asked about the tightness of the league table, Conte said in a press conference: “This league is very difficult. Every game anything can happen, you can win or lose.

“It’s important to give continuity, to trust in the work.

“Now there are five teams very close, but we shouldn’t look at the table. We must be focused on the work on the training pitch and take it game-by-game, step-by-step.

“It’s important to improve and trust in the work, these are the most important things.”

Chelsea will travel to the south coast this Sunday to take on Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium.
