Former Liverpool defender Phil Babb says he saw Jurgen Klopp telling Philippe Coutinho to up his game after just two minutes in the Reds' win over West Brom recently, with the Brazilian then producing a superb performance with a goal for good measure.

Coutinho has been in superb form for Liverpool in the current campaign and has played a key role in helping Klopp's side to sit level on points with the Premier League leaders Manchester City, along with second placed Arsenal.

Babb believes that the former Inter man must be rated as one of the best players in the Premier League, but he noted that Klopp has not been shy to tell Coutinho to pull his socks up when he thinks it is needed – and the midfielder has responded.

The former Liverpool defender said on LFC TV: "In the West Brom game Jurgen had a go at him after two minutes and then he put in a sublime performance.

"He is certainly spectacular and the goals that he has contributed as well this season have been sublime", Babb explained.

"Coutinho has been doing it for us week in, week out", he added.

So far this season Coutinho has made eleven appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring five goals and providing another five assists for his team-mates.

His good form has not gone unnoticed and the 24-year-old has been linked with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
