Everton boss Ronald Koeman has admitted he wanted to sign Memphis Depay during his time in charge of Southampton and is now eyeing taking him to Goodison Park.

Depay joined Manchester United from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2015, being tempted to Old Trafford by former Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal.

But the Dutchman has flopped on the pitch and is now firmly on the fringes at Manchester United, while he has attracted criticism for his flashy lifestyle off the pitch, leading to accusations he is more focused on enjoying the good life than knuckling down and succeeding.

Jose Mourinho has been tipped to be ready to end Depay's Manchester United career and Koeman is a big fan of his countryman.

He told FOX Sports: "I already wanted him at Southampton in 2015, but he picked Manchester United at the time, which was a logical choice."

Now the Everton boss is looking to take Depay to Goodison Park.

"I would love to have him in my team at Everton", Koeman admitted.

"He is a very interesting player in my opinion. He has a lot of individual quality, is always dangerous going forward and is pretty efficient as well.

"He just needs to get regular playing time again."

Depay has started just one match for Manchester United this season, out of a total of seven appearances in all competitions under Mourinho.

He is under contract at Old Trafford until 2019, but all the indications are he will not last the length of the deal with the Red Devils.
