Leeds United starlet Tyler Denton has explained that he will work hard to push Charlie Taylor for a place in the club’s starting line-up.

The young left-back, who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury, made his senior Leeds debut in the 1-0 win over Luton Town in the EFL Cup in August, with the 21-year-old finding the back of the net against the League Two outfit to mark the occasion.

Although Denton was rewarded with a new three-year deal three days after making his first team debut, the youngster has not featured for Leeds since then.

On the other hand, Taylor has made 18 appearances in all competitions in the present campaign and is manager Garry Monk’s first choice left-back.

And Denton, who acknowledged that Taylor is great both on and off the pitch, however, insisted that he is hopeful about dislodging the 23-year-old from the starting eleven.

“I have always said that Charlie is a great lad and a great player”, he was quoted as saying by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“But at the end of the day my job is to push Charlie as far as possible, to eventually hopefully get the place.

“I have just got to carry on working hard, impressing the right people and, fingers crossed, I can get there.”

Denton, who is a product of Leeds’ youth system, is contracted with the club until 2019.
