Ronny Deila feels there was less chance to be creative at Celtic because results were everything for the Scottish giants.

The 41-year-old, who has taken charge of Norwegian outfit Valerenga, stepped down from his post as Celtic manager at the end of last season.

During his time at Celtic, Deila helped the club to win two Scottish Premiership titles and one Scottish League Cup, but the Hoops fared badly on the European front, failing to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League for two consecutive seasons.

However, Deila, who insisted that he found managing Celtic exciting, does not believe taking charge of Valerenga is not a step down as he is eager to stamp his creative authority at the Ullevaal Stadion, something he did not manage fully at Paradise.

“Not at all, [I haven’t taken a step back]”, he was quoted as saying by the Evening Times.

“There are things you do notice; when you’re used to playing for 45,000 fans every two weeks there is a completely different atmosphere at the games.

“But it’s the football side of things I love; working with people, creating something, that’s my drive. And that’s more enjoyable here.

“Over there it’s so result orientated that you just have to get through each game somehow instead of trying to create something.

"What means the most to me is when you are at the stadium, the team is playing great, everybody are behind you and they are proud of what they’re seeing; you’re painting a picture for everyone who is at the game.

“At Celtic you’re having to paint a new picture every three days, a picture everyone has to like, you have to win and everything around it.

“So Celtic is an incredibly exciting job, but I’m really looking forward to working at Valerenga as the potential is so big.”

Celtic, who appointed Brendan Rodgers as Deila’s successor, are currently 10 points clear at the top of the league table with a game in hand; the Bhoys also managed to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League for the first time in two years.
