Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl has claimed that a lack of form is the reason behind Mahmoud Dahoud being sparingly used in the present campaign.

The midfielder, who made his senior Monchengladbach debut in the 2014/15 campaign, was in fine form last season.

Dahoud scored five goals and provided nine assists in 41 games last season, which attracted the interest of Liverpool in the summer.

However, the 20-year-old, whose present contract with Monchengladbach runs until 2018, with the youngster yet to sign a fresh deal, has thus far clocked up just 707 minutes over 10 appearances in all competitions this season, providing two assists.

And Eberl insisted that Dahoud not being fully in form has prompted Monchengladbach to field him less often in the ongoing campaign.

"Young players often endure a difficult second season after impressing in their debut campaign.

"That is only normal”, Eberl told German magazine Kicker.

"But we are all helping him rediscover his best form.

"He will soon be back to his best."

Liverpool have been linked with making a move for Dahoud in January, with Borussia Dortmund also keeping tabs on the starlet, who has represented Germany up to Under-21 level.
