Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is in no mood to take a dig at English food and has instead cast doubt over just how appealing German cuisine is.

English food has a poor reputation within Germany, with visitors from the country to the UK often asked about how they cope with the perceived terrible cuisine on offer.

Klopp too has been questioned about the food on offer, but insists the English just have different tastes to the Germans.

And the Liverpool manager explained that to English eyes, German food does not look appealing, pointing to haxe, a roast pork hock, and spatzle, a type of pasta dough.

In conversation with Swiss daily Blick, Klopp said: "We Germans like to eat spatzle or a haxe.

"The English simply have different tastes."

Klopp has settled well in England since he was appointed Liverpool manager in October last year and currently has the Reds sitting on top of the Premier League table.

In the summer he put pen to paper on a new contract with the Merseyside giants to keep him at Anfield until the summer of 2022.
