Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu is in line to face Celtic in a Champions League group stage game at Paradise on Wednesday.

The France international, who will receive his medical discharge on Tuesday, is currently sidelined with a soleus muscle injury in his right leg.

It was believed that Mathieu would return to action against Malaga at the weekend, but manager Luis Enrique and the medical staff decided against it in fear of relapsing the injury.

However, the 33-year-old, whose side were held to a goalless draw by Malaga, is expected to play against Celtic, according to Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo.

Mathieu has thus far clocked up 421 minutes over six appearances in all competitions in the present campaign, while in total he has turned out 81 times for Barcelona since joining the Catalan giants from their La Liga rivals Valencia in the summer of 2014.
