Rangers winger Neil McCann feels Mark Warburton is under more scrutiny following the failure of a few of his summer signings this season.

Warburton conducted an overhaul of his squad in the summer as he added eleven new players to the group that won promotion to the Scottish Premiership last season.

However, several of Warburton's signings have not paid off, with Joey Barton even leaving the club earlier this month after a much publicised disciplinary issue.

Another experienced head in Nico Kranjcar is currently battling a knee injury and striker Joe Garner is yet to show the potential that prompted Warburton to spend £1.8m in the summer.

Rangers chairman Dave King insisted in the recently concluded AGM that the club have the budget to return to Europe this season and while they are on course at the moment, McCann feels Warburton will come under more scrutiny in the second half of the campaign.

And he believes the Rangers boss cannot hope to satisfy the board or the fans with a mid-table finish this season after spending good amount of money in the summer.

“He’s under enormous pressure", McCann was quoted as saying by the Herald Scotland.

“Until you’re in that job you don’t know what it’s like. How could he know?

"The comments King made about the transfer budget and the use of it in the summer is an indication he’s under even more scrutiny because of the signings he’s made.

“If he’s mid-table it won’t be good enough, in my opinion, absolutely not with the budget he has at his disposal.

“The way they’ve come from the Championship – that wouldn’t be anywhere near good enough.”
