Rangers manager Mark Warburton has insisted that Joe Garner should be given time to prove himself at the club and succeed in a light blue shirt.

Warburton decided to spend £1.8m to sign the 28-year-old striker from Preston North End in the summer, but Garner has struggled to settle at his new club and has scored just three times.

The Rangers boss has come under fire for spending such a sum of money on Garner, who many feel doesn’t suit Warburton’s style of football, but the Englishman has defended his summer signing.

Warburton believes people have hastily passed their assessment on the 28-year-old striker and feels Garner should be given the time to grow into a Rangers player.

He stressed that that system is new for Garner, and feels he should be given the opportunity to settle down and understand Rangers’ style of football.

The Rangers boss said in a press conference: “Joe has only started off his career here,

“People are too quick to judge and he has come into a different formation, of course, but how many games has he played?

“I am disappointed at certain comments as the sample size is so small; give the player a chance to settle in, understand how his team play.

"But to judge him so quickly I think is very short sighted.”

Garner scored 57 goals in 151 appearances for Preston before moving north of the border to join Rangers.
