Diafra Sakho has thanked the West Ham United fans for their support and vowed to come back stronger from injury in 2017.

The former Metz striker is currently out of action after picking up a thigh injury. He collected the knock at Old Trafford after scoring against Manchester United at the weekend and as a result has been ruled out for six weeks.

The 26-year-old had been making only his second appearance of the season, due to being consistently troubled by injury. And now he will not play again until the new year.

Sakho is delighted at the support he has received from West Ham fans and is determined to repay them upon his return in 2017.

Sakho wrote on Twitter: "2016 has been a very difficult year, but I hope to come back stronger in 2017 and score again for you fans.

"Thank you for all of your support", the striker added.

When Sakho does return to the pitch, it may not be for West Ham initially, as Senegal are hoping he is fit for the African Cup of Nations, which kicks off in January.

Meanwhile, without Sakho, West Ham exited the EFL Cup on Wednesday night with a 4-1 defeat at Manchester United.
