Former Rangers star Steven Thompson thinks that the Gers faithful will be quick to get on the players' backs if a good performance is not forthcoming at Ibrox against Aberdeen this weekend.

Mark Warburton's men were beaten 2-0 by Hearts at Tynecastle on Wednesday night and pressure is now being heaped on the Englishman, with a number of Rangers fans already having turned against him, citing a stubborn refusal to change formation and style of football when plan A is not working.

Thompson agrees that the stakes are higher for Rangers than Aberdeen on Saturday and warned the Gers players that they will feel the fans' wrath if they do not produce the goods, something he says he has experienced first hand.

The former striker said on a BBC Scotland Facebook predictions Q&A: "They are both under massive of pressure, but I would say Rangers are under more pressure given the performance and the result last night.

"Also with it being at Ibrox, the Rangers fans will quickly let you know, I've been on the back of that, if things aren't going too well", Thompson continued.

"So Rangers will want a good start to the match.

"If Aberdeen score early it's going to be a long afternoon for the Rangers players, who are lacking confidence", the 38-year-old added.

Rangers sit third in the Scottish Premiership table with 26 points from 15 games, eight fewer than league leaders Celtic, who have three games in hand and so could swell their advantage to 17.

Aberdeen, who have two games in hand on Rangers, sit fourth with 24 points.
