Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has revealed that Ross McCormack is doubtful for his side’s Championship clash against Leeds United on Saturday.

The 30-year-old, who turned out for Leeds between 2010 and 2014 before the Whites sold him to Fulham, missed the Villains’ 3-1 win over Cardiff City last weekend with an ankle injury.

Although McCormack returned to training earlier in the week, Bruce explained that the game against Leeds could come too soon for the striker.

Bruce, whose side are unbeaten in their last seven Championship outings, went on to add that Nathan Baker is also doubtful for the trip to Elland Road at the weekend.

“Nathan came off against Cardiff and it doesn’t look like he’s going to make it”, he said in pre-match press conference on Friday.

“It’s still a bit too early for Ross. It’s his ankle.

“He trained on Wednesday and Thursday, but it’s still too soon for him.

"He needs another week or ten days, really.

“To be fair, everyone else is fine.”

McCormack, who scored 58 goals in 157 games for Leeds, was snapped up by Aston Villa from Fulham on a four-year deal in the summer.

The forward has thus far made 14 appearances in all competitions for Aston Villa, who are presently 11th in the Championship table, scoring twice.
