Toby Alderweireld has a release clause of just €30m in his contract with Tottenham Hotspur, it has been revealed.

The Belgium international centre-back joined Spurs from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015 and quickly formed a highly effective partnership with Jan Vertonghen in the heart of defence at White Hart Lane.

Alderweireld helped to power Spurs to a Premier League title tilt, but the north London giants are running the risk of losing the centre-back due to a clause in his contract.

According to Football Leaks in Le Soir newspaper, the defender has a release clause of €30m in his deal with Spurs, meaning the Premier League club would be powerless if any club chose to trigger the clause.

It is also revealed that Alderweireld earns €6,000 as a bonus every time he starts a game for Spurs.

Tottenham supremo Daniel Levy is unlikely to be pleased by the leak, which will put other clubs on alert and make them aware of the price for which they could sign Alderweireld, if he wishes to move.

The defender has made a total of ten appearances for Spurs in the current campaign, scoring one goal and continues to be a key man under Mauricio Pochettino.

His contract with Spurs, containing the clause, runs until 2020.
