Former Liverpool striker John Durnin feels it was unfair on Simon Mignolet to be dropped for Loris Karius, who he thinks does not have the best of reflexes.

Karius, who was roped in by Liverpool from Mainz in the summer to provide competition for Mignolet, has come in for criticism following his display in the Reds’ 4-3 loss to Bournemouth at the weekend.

Mignolet started between the sticks for Liverpool in the present campaign after Karius injured his hand in pre-season.

But the German dislodged Mignolet from the starting line-up after becoming fully fit in September, with the Belgium international since playing in only EFL Cup games.

However, Durnin, who is of the opinion that Karius has questionable reflexes, believes Mignolet should not have been dropped in the first place as he had a decent start to the season.

“It was unfair on Mignolet being dropped in the first place”, he said on Radio City Talk.

“I think he ended the [last] season well, he started the [current] season well.

“When you have got a goalkeeper who has not got a hair out of place like a model, you have got to ask questions.

“His hair doesn’t move and his reflexes are not the best.”

Karius has thus far made 10 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, helping the club to keep four clean sheets.

On the other hand, Mignolet has kept two clean sheets in eight games this season and is pushing to take his place in the side back from Karius.
