Leeds Under-18s boss Mark Jackson has lauded the effort his players put into their FA Youth Cup second round loss to Hull City last night.

The Yorkshire giants looked on their way to the third round of the competition courtesy of a Mailik Wilks brace in the first half, but the game changed in the final few minutes.

Hull scored two late goals to force the tie into extra time and Robbie McKenzie scored a 103rd winner for the Tigers to take his side into the next round of the FA Youth Cup.

Jackson is proud of his players as despite the exhaustion of extra time they stayed in the encounter until the last kick of the game and admits that as a coach that is all he can ask for from his young boys.

And despite the disappointing result, the Leeds Under-18s boss feels that he cannot fault the effort his players showed on the pitch.

Jackson told LUTV: “From everybody on the bench and the coaching staff, we are proud of the players.

“We were carrying players with cramps, other players were putting their bodies on the line and we stayed in it until the last kick of the game.

“It was a world class save from their goalkeeper to deny us going to penalties with the last kick of the game.

"That’s all we can ask from the players, stay in the game and they did that.

“We can’t fault the effort from the players.”
