Rangers legend Derek Johnstone believes that Gers fans now first look for Aberdeen and Hearts’ results ahead of Celtic’s.

Mark Warburton’s team, who are presently second in the Scottish Premiership table, will next face Hearts at Ibrox on Saturday.

Rangers have 29 points from 16 matches and find themselves eight points behind leaders and their arch-rivals Celtic, who have three games in hand.

With Celtic being far ahead in the table, Rangers’ realistic objective is to battle with Aberdeen and Hearts to finish the season in second spot.

As a result, Johnstone feels Rangers fans will be now be keener to learn the results of Aberdeen and Hearts, rather than Celtic.

“The results that Rangers fans look for first now are Aberdeen and Hearts”, he wrote in his column in the Evening Times.

“Normally it would be Celtic but they are far in the distance in the Premiership.

“This [weekend game against Hearts] is another chance to beat one of the sides that will be in that battle with us for second place this season and taking six points from nine in this run would not be a bad return.”

Rangers, who lost 2-0 to Hearts on 30th November, returned to winning ways by beating Aberdeen 2-1 three days' later.

While Aberdeen are third in the table with 27 points from 15 games, Hearts occupy fourth spot and have the same number of points, but have played a match more.
