Leeds United boss Garry Monk has revealed the process behind him signing new players for the squad and is pleased with the way his summer signings have worked out this season.

Upon his arrival at the club in the summer, Monk carried out an overhaul of the Leeds squad and eleven new faces walked into Elland Road during the previous transfer window.

Despite some poor early season form, the Yorkshire giants recovered and the new signings such as Kyle Bartley, Pontus Jansson, Eunan O’Kane and Hadi Sacko have become pillars of a resurgent Leeds side.

Monk admits that a lot of work went in behind the scenes in order to identify the right kind of players for the Leeds squad in the summer and a number of aspects were looked at before the deals were carried out.

And the Leeds boss admits that the people behind the scenes deserve credit for the way a number of the summer signings have worked out for Leeds this season.

Monk said in a press conference: “Whatever signings you make, there is always an element of a gamble, no matter how much homework you do, no matter how much analysing you do.

“But of course we take it very seriously, we look at all aspects of a player on and off the pitch and then you assess what type of environment you are going to bring them into, what type of player they are, how they fit into the group – all those things you have to weigh up when you recruit a player.

“All the hard work in the summer, it’s good to see that it’s paying off and that’s vitally important.

“With every transfer window, those are the elements you try and get right and if you can try and limit the risk of a failure or someone not contributing, that’s the reason why you do all that work.

“Credit to everyone who was involved in the summer and it will be that way for every transfer window moving forward.”

Monk is hopeful of adding more new faces to his squad January as he looks to push Leeds further into the playoff mix in the second half of the season.
