Leeds United hitman Chris Wood has hailed Leicester City's Jamie Vardy after he netted a hat-trick for the Foxes against Manchester City at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester started quickly on home turf and Vardy fired the Foxes ahead after just three minutes, before Andy King then hit a curling shot past Claudio Bravo to make it 2-0 only minutes later.

Vardy had his second of the night when Riyad Mahrez picked him out in the 20th minute, while in the 70th minute he took advantage of sloppy defending by John Stones to slot past Bravo from a tight angle.

Manchester City scored late consolation goals through Aleksandar Kolarov and Nolito, but Leicester celebrated a superb 4-2 win, moving up to 14th in the Premier League standings.

For Leeds striker Wood, who used to play for Leicester, Vardy had made his critics eat their words.

The New Zealander wrote on Twitter: "Good to see Vardy back amongst the goals!! #classispermanent".

Despite Vardy's superb form last season, his hat-trick was his first three-goal haul since 2012, when he netted three times for Fleetwood Town.

Manchester City have now slipped to four points behind Arsenal and Chelsea, who sit first and second respectively, while Liverpool are third, ahead of the Citizens on goal difference.
