Former Leeds United star David Prutton believes that the Whites simply have to be at their best every week to get results in the Championship, after watching Garry Monk's men lose 2-0 to Brighton on Friday night.

Brighton won the game via two penalties, the first of which in the 23rd minute also saw Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips sent off for handling on the goalline. However, the Seagulls were at less than their best, though they still did enough to have too much for a ten-man Leeds team as they moved to the top of the Championship.

Prutton, who has seen Monk drive Leeds up to fourth in the table, believes the Whites simply need to be at their maximum to get results in the Championship.

He said on Sky Sports after the match: "The feeling you get with Leeds, especially this Leeds squad that Garry's assembled, is that they need to be at their maximum every week.

"They need to have all eleven players on the pitch, they need to give themselves the best chance to be the best version of themselves in that particular game", Prutton added.

The former Whites star was quick to salute Monk however, explaining that the former Swansea City boss has taken a team struggling at the start of the campaign and dragged them up the standings.

"He's got this team and dragged them up this season, especially when you look at the start of the season and where they were."

Next up for Leeds is a visit from third placed Reading to Elland Road on Tuesday night, a game then followed by a visit from Brentford.

Boxing Day sees the Whites head to Preston North End, while their final match of 2016 is on Thursday 29th December at Aston Villa.
