Manchester United have withdrawn their promises of a new contract to Marouane Fellaini as the midfielder edges closer towards the exit door at Old Trafford.

The midfielder shone under the stewardship of Louis van Gaal and while under Jose Mourinho the early signs were promising, it seems more likely now that the Belgian is no longer in the long terms plans of the current Manchester United manager.

While he has started in eight Premier League games this season, Mourinho has seemed to be preferring a midfield trident of Michael Carrick, Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera in recent games.

And Fellaini is believed to be edging closer to the Old Trafford exit as according to Belgian daily Het Nieuwsblad, the club have gone back on their promises of a new contract for the midfielder.

Mourinho is ready to cull his Manchester United squad in the next couple of transfer windows to bring in more players as he looks to turn the tide at Old Trafford.

And it seems Fellaini is one of the players the Manchester United boss is willing to sacrifice, with a move away from the club looking inevitable for the Belgian at the moment.

The Manchester United midfielder’s current contract with the club runs until 2018 and it seems he won’t be getting a new deal at Old Trafford.

It has also been suggested he could move on from the club as soon as the January transfer window.
