Celtic legend Tom Boyd feels manager Brendan Rodgers now has a selection headache due to the solid performances of the squad players when called upon.

The Hoops, who are eight points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with three games in hand, will play as many as eight league games in December.

Due to a combination of fixture congestion, injuries to some key players and Celtic finding themselves in a commanding position in the league, Rodgers decided to rotate his squad against Partick Thistle last Friday, a game the Bhoys comfortably won 4-1.

The likes of Cristian Gamboa, Gary Mackay-Steven and Leigh Griffiths all started at Firhill and gave a good account of themselves, while Callum McGregor also impressed after coming off the bench.

And Boyd thinks due to impressive displays of the sparingly used players, Rodgers will have a selection dilemma when he has a full squad to choose from.

“What we’re doing now is that we’re utilising the squad”, he said on Celtic TV.

“We’ve got a few injuries, players are coming in and stepping up to the mark.

“They’re making sure that they give the manager a headache for the selection process.

“And that’s what he would want. Obviously the big debate is now who’s going to play as a striker.

“But the manager wants competition, he wants players playing well and we are certainly getting that right now.

“Players are coming off the bench and making things happen and that’s great to see.”

Stuart Armstrong netted a brace, while Griffiths and McGregor scored one goal apiece against Partick Thistle.
