Rangers are set to miss out on the signature of FC Porto midfielder Joao Carlos Teixeira, who is poised to link up with Championship high flyers Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 23-year-old joined Porto from Liverpool in the summer transfer window, returning to his homeland following the expiry of his contract with the Reds; Porto paid Liverpool a compensation fee due to the midfielder's age.

But Teixeira has struggled to command first team football at Porto, playing just 15 minutes in the Portuguese League Cup, and as a result has been looking to move on when the transfer window swings back open next month.

He has been strongly linked with Scottish giants Rangers, with Gers boss Mark Warburton looking to make additions to his squad.

Teixeira will not be heading to Ibrox though as according to Portuguese outlet Zero Zero, he is to link up with Brighton on loan for the second half of the season.

Brighton will have no option to buy at the end of the loan period.

Teixeira is no stranger to the Seagulls, having enjoyed a loan spell at the club while at Liverpool.

Indeed, the Portuguese schemer clocked up 32 appearances in the Championship for Brighton and he will join a side chasing promotion to the Premier League, currently sitting in second spot in the table.
