Former Manchester United coach Warren Joyce claims that Ravel Morrison was better in terms of ability during his development at Old Trafford than Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and the Keane brothers.

Morrison is currently on the books at Italian giants Lazio after struggling to make an impact in the English game. He could be heading back to England soon though as Joyce, now Wigan Athletic manager, is putting him through his paces; the midfielder is currently training with the Latics.

Joyce feels Wigan could not turn down the chance to assess Morrison ahead of a potential deal and explained he knows all about how much potential the midfielder has from his time working at Manchester United.

"Ravel’s obviously not played a lot of football recently", Joyce told Latics Player.

"I know how much of a talent he is from my days at Manchester United", he explained.

"It’s a unique opportunity for us really because we’ve got a chance to look at him and assess his fitness.

"We know he has talent but it’s all about how quick we can get him up to the levels we need him to be at here.

"There were players like Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and the Keanes coming through at that time, and he was possibly the star player ability-wise, so it’s one that’s worth looking at for us so we can assess where he is at this stage of his career", the Wigan manager added.

Morrison won praise from Lazio fans for his application and performances for the Serie A side during pre-season and the club's faithful were looking forward to seeing him in action this term.

But the midfielder is firmly out of favour with Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi and has not been handed even a single minute of senior team football in the current campaign.

Morrison has been tipped to move on from Lazio in this month's transfer window.
