Lyon are working on a deal to sign Adnan Januzaj from Manchester United and have even enlisted the help of former club coach Gerard Houllier.

Les Gones want to make a statement in the transfer market this month and Januzaj is their preferred signing, with work going on in an attempt to land the Belgium international, who is currently on loan at Sunderland.

According to French sports daily L'Equipe, Lyon's former coach Houllier has spoken with Louis van Gaal, Manchester United manager until last summer, to enquire about Januzaj; Houllier also discussed Memphis Depay's situation with the Dutch tactician.

Lyon would like to sign Januzaj on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy.

But the French giants are not putting all their eggs in the Januzaj basket.

They have identified two other options in the event they cannot land the Belgian winger.

Angers forward Nicolas Pepe is on the club's radar, as is Genk winger Leon Bailey.

But Lyon's priority is doing a deal to sign Januzaj this month.

He is under contract with Manchester United until 2018.
