A move to Rangers for Jon Toral appears to have taken a big step forward after the Gunners recalled the midfielder from Granada.

Arsene Wenger opted to allow Toral to join the Spanish side on a season-long loan deal last summer, but the agreement contained an option allowing Arsenal to recall him in the winter transfer window.

That has now been activated, with Toral heading back to Arsenal following the end of his loan spell with Granada.

He is not expected to stay at the Emirates Stadium though as Wenger has admitted a loan to Rangers is on the agenda for Toral, with the Arsenal boss believing it would represent a good move.

It remains to be seen how quickly Toral's move to Ibrox can be completed as Rangers could well deploy him in a friendly this coming weekend.
