Leeds United head coach Garry Monk is not giving into the temptation of trying to sign a new player in time for Friday evening’s clash against Derby County.

The Yorkshire giants are dealing with certain issues in their squad ahead of the big Championship game at Elland Road against the Rams as they are sweating on their defensive options for the match.

Pontus Jansson is suspended for the game and with Liam Cooper still doubtful, the identity of Kyle Bartley’s defensive partner on Friday evening is still up for much deliberation.

However, Monk has insisted that he won’t be looking for a quick fix in the transfer market and look to bring in someone soon, ahead of the game at Elland Road.

He stressed that Leeds will continue to follow their well drawn out plans for the January transfer window.

When asked if he is looking to bring in someone tomorrow, Monk told LUTV: “No.

“We don’t go away from what we have spoken about internally and we are focused on that.

“If something comes very quickly, but there is no time for that.

"The plan is to focus on what we have talked about and move forward in that way.”

Monk is said to be eyeing a forward in the winter window and with injuries and suspensions limiting his resources, the Leeds boss could also look to sign defensive cover in January.
