Aston Villa are still waiting for the opportunity to sign midfielder Henri Lansbury from Nottingham Forest.

The Villa Park outfit have slapped in a £3m bid for Lansbury and the player is keen to make the move, with Watford out of the chase due to his wage demands.

However, Forest have yet to sanction the switch for Lansbury and, according to the BBC, the deal is stalled due to the takeover currently in progress at the City Ground.

It has been suggested the transfer can only be waved through by Forest's new owner, when in place, meaning Aston Villa have been left in limbo over their desire to sign Lansbury.

Lansbury has not featured for Nottingham Forest of late amid suggestions that he is not in the right mental place to play.

Forest currently sit in a lowly 18th spot in the Championship standings, while Villa are nine points better off in 12th place.

Should the deal go through in this month's transfer window then Lansbury could have a quick reunion with his former employers.

The two sides are due to meet in a league fixture at the City Ground on 4th February.
