Liverpool legend Jan Molby feels that the Reds must pray that the Southampton game was a one-off as they head to Old Trafford on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp's side had to take a step back in the quest for the first piece of major silverware of the season as fellow Premier League side Southampton beat them 1-0 in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final tie between the two clubs.

As the Manchester United game now looms large there is no time to ponder over the loss, Molby feels, and he hopes that Wednesday night's lacklustre performance was a one-off and they can bounce back to get all three points against Jose Mourinho's men.

Molby also took time to ask his former side to focus on what they have done so far in the season, which he believes will be more than good enough to get a result against Mourinho's side.

"Don't be down over what you've seen tonight", Molby said on Liverpool's official TV channel after the loss to Southampton.

"What you've seen over the season is more than good enough to get a result at Old Trafford.

"We have to assume, we have to pray, that that was a one off."

The Reds are currently placed second in the league table with 44 points from 20 matches, trailing leaders Chelsea by five points.
