Leeds United legend Eddie Gray feels it is important the Whites look to take three points against Derby County on Friday evening and dent the Rams' bid to be in the top six this season.

The Yorkshire giants, who are currently placed fifth in the league table, are five points ahead of the Rams in seventh and could further consolidate their position in the top six if they get a win at Elland Road.

Gray can see why neutrals could predict a draw between Leeds and Derby as both teams are on good runs of form, but he feels that Garry Monk’s men must look for a win at home.

He believes the Rams can become a tough team to dislodge if they sneak into the top six and their disappointments in recent seasons could act as extra motivation for them to get back into the Premier League next season.

The Leeds legend told LUTV: “Looking at it if you are an outsider, a lot of people will pump for a draw.

“They still need to get into the hunt for the top six, but they are one of the sides if they get in there then they can really take it forward because of the disappointments of the last few seasons.

“That’s why it’s really important for us to take the three points and I think we have a great chance of doing that.”

Derby scored a 1-0 win over Leeds earlier in the current campaign at Pride Park, but they played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at Elland Road last season.
