Lyon coach Bruno Genesio admits that signing Memphis Depay from Manchester United is his priority in the current transfer window.

Depay has turned into a peripheral figure at Manchester United this season and has not played any football since his eight-minute cameo against Feyenoord at Old Trafford towards the end of November.

Jose Mourinho has insisted that the Dutchman is free to leave the club in January and Everton have been strongly linked with making a move for him, especially as boss Ronald Koeman is a confirmed fan.

Lyon jumped ahead of the queue when they reportedly held talks with Manchester United over signing Depay, but it has been suggested that the Red Devils have rejected a bid for the player from the Ligue 1 side.

Though an agreement still seems farfetched, the French outfit have continued to hold talks with Premier League giants and Genesio is looking keen to have Depay in his squad.

The Lyon coach said in a press conference when asked about his Depay: “Memphis Depay is a player who I have prioritised.

“[And] contrary to what you have read or heard, I am a fan of Memphis Depay.”

While the coach is keen to have the Dutchman at Lyon, it remains to be seen whether the club can reach an agreement with Manchester United who paid more than €30m for Depay in 2015.
