Leeds United striker Chris Wood admits that his side still need to take one game at a time and should make sure not to get too ahead of themselves as the Championship remains a notoriously unpredictable league.

The Kiwi’s goal on the stroke of half time helped Leeds to register a 1-0 win over Derby County on Friday night at Elland Road and they moved up to third in the Championship table, a position they maintained following Saturday's matches.

Six points off second placed Brighton, there have been suggestions that Garry Monk’s impressive team could spring a surprise by earning automatic promotion to the Premier League this season.

However, Wood insisted that it is important Leeds keep their feet on the ground and just worry about the next game, rather than get too ahead of themselves in January.

He feels the Championship remains a notoriously volatile league where anything can happen on any given day and as such it is important Leeds stick to their methods to get success this season.

The forward told BBC Radio Leeds, when asked whether the Whites are still taking one game at a time: “I have done that through whole of my career.

“Personally I find it the best way to deal with things.

"There is no point in getting yourselves giddy and all that.

“It’s just one game at a time; anybody can beat anybody, Rotherham can beat anybody on their day, this league is renowned for that.

“It’s a long way to go, about 20 odd games to go so it’s a long season to go, but we just keep working the way we are doing and we’ll get the success where we are.”

Leeds will next take an away trip to Barnsley on Saturday.
