Celtic Under-20s boss Tommy McIntyre has credited Rangers for making it tough during his side’s 1-0 win in the mini Old Firm derby on Tuesday.

Calvin Miller’s first half goal at Murray Park turned out to be the difference between the teams as the Hoops returned to winning ways, following their 3-0 loss to Dunfermline Athletic before the winter break in late December.

And McIntyre, who believes his team fully deserved their goal, however, admitted that it would have been easier for Celtic had they found the back of the net for the second time.

The 53-year-old went on to concede that it was indeed a tough game as he gave Rangers credit for sticking in.

“We had a good sprinkling of young players out there such as Jack Aitchison, Calvin Miller, Mark Hill and Theo Archibald and when we got the goal it was fully deserved and we controlled the game in the second half”, he told the club’s official site after the game.

“We just needed that second goal and if we had got that then it could have been a bit easier for us.

“Rangers stuck in and fair dues to them. It was a tough match but you don’t expect anything different.

“You are always wondering if they get a wee half-chance, but in terms of chances created, we kept them to a minimum.”

Celtic are presently seventh in the development league table with 26 points from 13 games, seven behind leaders Hibernian, who have played four matches more.

The Bhoys are next up against Aberdeen on 26th January.
