Rangers star Andy Halliday has backed new additions Jon Toral and Emerson Hyndman and has stressed that both players are crucial in reinforcing the midfield department.

The Gers brought in a whole host of players in the summer transfer window to strengthen their squad, but have seen their midfield options limited due to injuries and the departure of Joey Barton.

Injuries to players resulted in regular rotation in midfield and also forced manager Mark Warburton to make two new additions, Toral and Hyndman, in the winter transfer window.

Halliday, who has been an important member of Warburton’s squad this season and has managed to feature in the Gers midfield regularly, said that both recent signings are good additions to his side’s midfield.

“The new boys, Jon and Emerson, can help us in midfield”, Halliday was quoted as saying by the Herald Scotland.

“We've been unfortunate so far this season to get injuries in that department.

“We've been light in numbers and the gaffer wanted to get boys in”, added the 25-year-old.

“They're two good additions.”

Both Toral and Hyndman made their debuts during Rangers 4-0 defeat to Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig in a friendly match last Sunday.

With Niko Kranjcar currently sidelined due to injury, the duo will be eyeing impressing manager Warburton by performing in the upcoming games.
