Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday has insisted that competition in midfield within the club has helped him get better and stressed that he will improve further with new additions in the Gers midfield.

Light Blues boss Mark Warburton brought over ten players to Ibrox in the summer transfer window. as the club prepared for life back in the Premiership.

The signings of Joey Barton, Niko Kranjcar, Jordan Rossiter, Matt Crooks and Josh Windass brought competition in midfield for Halliday, who has been with the Gers since the summer of 2015.

However, he showed his worth in midfield to Warburton and cemented his place in the first team by improving his game.

With two new additions, Jon Toral and Emerson Hyndman, made to Rangers’ midfield in the winter transfer window, Halliday feels he is going to benefit further from the competition.

“I welcome the competition in there”, Halliday was quoted as saying by the Herald Scotland.

“You can't be at a football club like Rangers and not expect people to try and take your jersey.

“There was competition who arrived at the start of the season and it forced me to raise my game”, added the 25-year-old.

“I think I did that when I had to at the beginning of the campaign.

“It benefitted my game and I'm sure it will do so again. All the boys will feel the same.

Halliday said that a player needs to step up his game when there are other players ready to take his place in the team and explained: “When there's someone breathing down your neck trying to take your place – you know you have to play well to stay in the team.”

The midfielder has thus far scored five goals this season in 28 appearances in all competitions.

He will be aiming to make more significant contributions in the upcoming games to stay in the team following the arrivals of Toral and Hyndman.
