Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen has insisted that despite having more players in defence in the new formation, Spurs have not changed their practice of defending as a team.

The White Hart Lane outfit have looked more aggressive in their approach since manager Mauricio Pochettino switched to a 3-4-2-1 system.

Spurs have scored 12 goals since changing their formation four games back against Watford earlier this month and have conceded only one.

The new system has given Pochettino’s men more assurance at the back as the wing-backs drop back when the opposition are counter attacking.

However, Eriksen feels that despite having more men at the back the defensive duties of every player have remained the same.

“Of course, you always have defensive responsibilities, even if you play four at the back”, Eriksen told the club website when asked how he sees his defending role.

“I think it’s not much different [with three], just in the back of your head you know you can take a few more chances because you know there are a few more players behind you.

“Obviously you have less players to play through when you look forward but when you move well, which we did again at the weekend, then you create a lot of chances”, added the 24-year-old.

The Dane has been in great form of late and has scored seven goals this season in addition to providing nine assists to his team-mates in 27 appearances in all competitions.

Tottenham have won their last seven games in all competitions and have moved up to second spot in the Premier League table.
