Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce admits that Jordan Rhodes is most probably not going to arrive at Villa Park from Middlesbrough in the ongoing transfer window.

The 26-year-old forward signed for Boro in January last year and played a key role in helping Aitor Karanka’s side to achieve promotion to the Premier League last season.

However, the striker has been a bit part player at the Riverside this season and has played just 208 minutes of football over six Premier League appearances.

Villa were hopeful of signing the player during the ongoing transfer window to boost their chances of finishing in the playoff spots of the Championship, but it seems the transfer is not going to happen.

Bruce has revealed that it is highly unlikely that Rhodes will join Aston Villa this month despite their attempts in reaching an agreement with Middlesbrough.

“It looks as if it’s run its course; we have tried our best to bring him in.

“It looks as if it’s not going to happen.”

Rhodes has a contract until 2020 with Boro, but the player remains desperate to play regular football.

Leeds United are also believed to be interested in the player, but they are yet to make any concrete move for the forward.
