Tottenham Hotspur star Hugo Lloris has admitted that the saga involving his France team-mate Dimitri Payet trying to force his way out of West Ham United is “rather surprising.”

Payet is refusing to turn out for the Hammers as he wants to move to his former employers Marseille, with the midfielder currently training with the club's Under-23 squad.

West Ham have already rejected two bids from Marseille for their star player as they are not prepared to sell him on the cheap; the Premier League outfit want around €34m to €35m for the 29-year-old.

And Lloris, who explained that the whole situation is surprising, believes things will become clearer over the coming days.

The Spurs goalkeeper went on to add that he has not spoken to Payet regarding the matter yet.

"We are more focused on our own daily life, but Dimitri is my team-mate and also someone with whom I get along very well”, Lloris told French broadcaster SFR Sport.

“It's a rather surprising situation, but we may know a bit more in a little while, but he has not spoken on this subject yet.

“It is up to West Ham and Dimitri in relation to everything that is going on.”

Payet has thus far made 22 appearances in all competitions for West Ham in the present campaign, netting three times and providing eight assists.
