Las Palmas president Miguel Angel Ramirez has revealed that his club are getting ever closer to completing a deal to sign Middlesbrough and Sunderland target Jese Rodriguez.

The forward joined Paris Saint-Germain from Real Madrid in the summer but has remained a bit part player, leading to speculation over his long term future at the Parc des Princes.

His hometown club Las Palmas have been keen to get the player on board, but their limited finances meant they were always trailing behind Premier League clubs such as Middlesbrough and Sunderland.

And Jese was reportedly on his way to Middlesbrough, with Aitor Karanka speaking about the player in a press conference yesterday, but it seems Las Palmas are set to pip them to the Spaniard’s signature.

Club president Ramirez admits that Las Palmas are getting closer to signing the forward in the ongoing transfer window and indicated that despite their limited financial muscle, the player’s will has tilted the scales towards his club.

The Las Palmas president told Spanish radio station Cadena SER: “The operation for the signing of Jese is [getting] closer [to completion].

“Las Palmas cannot compete with teams who are seeking Jese, but we have a player who wants to come to us, and Las Palmas are ready to close.

“Gines Carvajal [the player’s agent] will do everything possible for him to come here.”

Jese has always been keen to join his hometown club and is said to be taking a pay cut to take the deal over the line.
