Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson has revealed that the club are looking for good football and a focus on bringing academy players into the first team, from the next permanent manager at Ibrox.

The Glasgow giants are without a manager since Mark Warburton’s acrimonious departure from the club last week and the first team preparations are being currently looked after by Under-20s boss Graeme Murty.

Names such as Alex McLeish and Frank de Boer have been linked with a move to Ibrox, but Rangers are unlikely to make a decision on the next permanent boss until the end of the season.

Robertson admits that the club are keen to see the team play good football on the pitch moving forward in order to provide the entertainment their fans deserve for the money they invest in watching Rangers.

He also added that the next manager must also look to work closely with the Rangers academy and bring in more Gers products into the first team, something he insisted is a long term policy of the club.

Robertson said on the official Rangers Podcast: “There is no doubt that people want to watch good football.

“Football is an entertainment business and people pay a lot of money to come and watch Rangers.

"Absolutely they want to see the club winning but if we can win with a bit of flair as well then that’s what we will like to do.

“We also want someone who is going to allow us to take on the good work that has been done in the academy.

“That’s a key part of the club’s plans going forward, you want to see some young players getting their opportunity in the first team, so ideally we want a manager who gives some of the young boys a chance in the first team.

“We have a desire to bring someone is who will work closely with the academy and brings these lads through.”

De Boer is believed to be their top target but the Dutchman wants to wait until the end of the season before making any commitment to Rangers.
