Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has explained that he wanted to improve on his goalscoring record from last season after he found the back of the net yet again in his side’s 2-1 win over Southampton at the weekend.

The England international, who has been in sublime form this season, managed 10 goals and 11 assists in 46 games in the 2015/16 campaign.

But Alli has found the back of the net more often this term, with the 20-year-old already scoring 17 times in 39 appearances in all competitions, in addition to setting up eight goals.

And the youngster, who admitted that he struggled to score consistently last season, stated that he sought to improve his accuracy in front of goal.

“I’m happy to get up there, it’s something I wanted to improve on from last season where I had a lot of opportunities but wasn’t putting them away as much as I would have liked to”, he told Spurs TV, when asked about his goalscoring record this season.

“I’m just happy to get on the scoresheet but more importantly we got the win.”

Alli then went on to laud his side for managing to bag the full three points against Southampton, who put them under serious pressure in the second half at White Hart Lane.

“We’re learning all the time in training and in games”, he continued.

“There are so many things we need to learn as a team and build on and seeing out games is important, especially at this level when anything can happen and at 2-0 up, you’re not as confident as you should be.

“We saw it out, though, and it shows great maturity from the boys.”
