West Ham United are interested in snapping up Wayne Rooney from Manchester United in the summer, according to Sky Sports News HQ, a switch which has not been ruled out.

Rooney has become an increasingly fringe figure at Old Trafford as Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho prefers other options, while his international prospects have also declined.

Now West Ham are ready to offer Rooney a new home if he decides to call time on his lengthy spell at Manchester United, and the Red Devils let him go.

The Hammers could make the forward the focal point of their side and bank that he can rediscover his old form when playing on a weekly basis.

It is also claimed that the move has not been ruled out and a switch to London could be an attractive proposition for Rooney.

West Ham were aiming to sign a big name striker last summer as they looked to mark their first season at the London Stadium in style.

But they could only attract Simone Zaza from Juventus and the Italian flopped, exiting the club in the January transfer window for Valencia.

Signing Rooney would grab headlines for the Hammers, but they would be likely to face significant opposition for his signature, not least from the cash rich Chinese Super League.
