Arsene Wenger has insisted that he is not aware of any suggestion of Marc Overmars becoming director of football at Arsenal.

Regardless of Wenger’s future at the club, Arsenal are planning to carry out a few structural changes and appointing a director of football seems to be at the top of their agenda.

Arsenal are reportedly tapping up former Gunner Overmars, who is currently Ajax’s director of football, to take up the role at the Emirates and have already held talks with the Dutchman.

However, Wenger stressed that he is not aware of any such plans to appoint Overmars as the club’s director of football but admits that he admires his former player, who has built a reputation for being a canny negotiator at Ajax.

Asked whether he is aware that Overmars has been linked with the director of football role at Arsenal, Wenger said in a press conference: “No, I am not.

"I am sure there are plenty of candidates to take care of Arsenal Football Club.”

Even if Wenger decides to stay at Arsenal beyond the summer, the club hierarchy may want to carry out structural changes with a director of football overseeing the recruitment side, taking some of the pressure off the Frenchman.
