Former Premier League winning manager Claudio Ranieri is proud to see Antonio Conte carrying the torch for the school of Italian coaching with Chelsea this season.

A 1-0 win over West Brom on Friday night meant Chelsea have been crowned Premier League champions after finishing tenth last season and Conte has managed to conquer England in his first campaign on English shores.

Carlo Ancelotti was the first Italian manager to win the Premier League in 2010 when he won it with Chelsea and Ranieri pulled off a shock when he won the title with Leicester City last season.

Ranieri admits that he feels immense pride to see Conte succeed in winning the league title after his success last term and feels it is another feather in the cap for the school of Italian coaching.

He feels it was not an easy job for Conte to win the league in his first season in England, but believes the Chelsea manager excelled in all aspects of management this season.

“I am so proud to hand over the reins of the Premier League to Conte – from one Italian to another Italian”, Ranieri told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It’s another award for our school [of coaching].

“After my story at Leicester, this wonderful adventure at Chelsea was not easy at the first attempt, but Conte has passed the test of English football with flying colours.

“Antonio was very good with all the aspects – team management, relations with the outside world, media relations – the fundamentals remain a coach’s job.”

Conte will be looking to emulate Ancelotti by winning the league and cup double in his first season at Chelsea by beating Arsenal in the FA Cup final on 27th May.
