Leeds United striker Marcus Antonsson is sure that his former club Kalmar FF will recover from their disastrous start to the season.

Antonsson turned out for Kalmar until last summer, when Leeds raided the Swedish club to take him to Elland Road. When he left, with the Swedish season in full swing, Antonsson was the Allsvenskan's top scorer.

Kalmar ultimately managed a finish of sixth spot in 2016, but this term they are struggling badly.

Having played nine games so far, Kalmar are second from bottom in the Allsvenskan with just five points – and coach Peter Swardh is under severe pressure.

But Antonsson is confident that his former team have what it takes to turn their fortunes around.

"I'm not a bit worried on their behalf", the Leeds striker told Fotboll Direkt.

"They will turn it around, but they need a few wins to get into gear.

"They are only a few points from safe ground and then they can build from there."

Kalmar continued their horrific start to the season on Tuesday night by losing 2-0 away at second placed Norrkoping.

Pontus Jansson's former club Malmo currently lead the way at the top of the Allsvenskan.
