Former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam feels the Reds would find it extremely hard to replace Philippe Coutinho if he leaves in the summer.

Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old Brazilian playmaker and he is reportedly their number one target for the next transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that he is under no pressure to lose his top players at Liverpool, but Coutinho did say recently that it’s flattering to be linked with a move to the Camp Nou.

There are suggestions that the Brazilian could push for a transfer if Barcelona are prepared to slap in a big money bid for him in the summer but Adam has conceded that losing Coutinho could be a big loss for Liverpool.

He feels the Reds would find it tough to find a replacement of Coutinho’s calibre if the Brazilian packs his bags for Spain.

The former Red said on BBC Radio 5 live: “If they were to lose him, who would they bring in to replace him.

“That’s the problem – can they swap him with [James] Rodriguez at Real Madrid and [Antoine] Griezmann, I don’t see him going to Liverpool.

“So it’s difficult to see who they would get to replace him as he’ll be hell of a bloke to lose as everything goes through him.”

Coutinho recently signed a new five-year deal with Liverpool and the Reds are confident of holding on to him this summer.
